Ukranian Borscht Class 2-3 p.m.

Today from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., I'll be hosting a Soup Angel's Ukrainian Borscht soup-making class. Classes are free for our group members, and you can take your soups home.

1. Borscht is officially UNESCO‑protected.

In 2022, Ukrainian Borscht was added to UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding — recognizing it as a treasured part of Ukrainian identity and community cooking traditions.

2. Traditional borscht can include up to 30 ingredients.

Every region — and every grandmother — has their own version. Some add smoked pears, beans, mushrooms, or even prunes for depth.

3. It’s not always red.

Lets Eat!!

What a fantastic first day! We signed up 21 people for a Taste of Italy family-style event and raised a couple hundred dollars, which in my world means I can feed two hundred people.

quick heads‑up for tomorrow

The Lakewood Home Tour is happening, and if you’re out walking the neighborhood and need a place to take a breather, you’re welcome to stop by.

I’ll be making Cinco de Mayo Taco Bowls for anyone who could use a warm meal or a little pick‑me‑up. If you know a neighbor, friend, or passerby who could use one, send them over — or grab one to take to them.

Community, kindness, and good food — that’s what we do in Lakewood. 🌮💛

School Programs / Meals

Today I delivered chef‑crafted soups to one of our neighborhood schools to help supplement their support for families in need. If you’re aware of other schools or programs that could benefit from this kind of help, please share my information with them. I’m committed to making sure every family has access to wholesome meals.

🥣 Soup Angels Pop‑Up Tomorrow

Neighbors, we’ll be hosting a Soup Drive tomorrow from 1–3 p.m. at Virtus Barber & Co. If you or someone you know could use a few fresh, handcrafted soups to take home, please stop by. No cost, no questions — just kindness, dignity, and nourishment.

We’ll also have a donation box out for anyone who wants to help fuel the next big batch of soups we prepare for outreach across Dallas. Dry goods, single‑serve hygiene items, and pantry staples are always appreciated and make a real impact.

If you can’t make it in person, we gratefully accept donations anytime at SoupAngels.org. Every bit of support helps us reach more neighbors with warmth and care.

Thank you, Dallas, for continuing to lift one another up. Hope to see you tomorrow at Virtus.

 Lakewood Neighbors Doing Good Together

Today is a big day for Soup Angels — we officially partnered with Pet Pal Pack, a local group that helps our unhoused neighbors care for their pets.

While we’re out feeding folks across Dallas, they’re right there making sure the dogs and cats who walk beside them are fed, safe, and loved. It’s a perfect match of missions, and it all started right here in our Lakewood community.

Just wanted to share a little good news from our corner of the neighborhood today. Grateful to live in a place where compassion is the norm and partnerships like this can grow.

Here’s to feeding people and their furry family members, one bowl at a time.

The reason Soup Angels was born

In 2025, more than 600,000 shelter animals were euthanized. For many unhoused neighbors, their dog isn’t “just a pet” — it’s their family, their safety, and their whole world. Asking them to surrender that companion isn’t a simple fix. It can be a heartbreaking gamble.

Supporting people and their pets right where they are is the kinder, safer path. When we help keep those pairs together — with food, supplies, or simple compassion — we’re preventing beloved animals from entering a system where the odds are stacked against them.

Lakewood has always shown up for its neighbors. Extending that same care to the people on our streets and the animals they love truly makes a difference.
