Celebrating Pantry Angel Cheryl Wurtz and the Heart of Generosity

Welcome to the Gratitude Notes series, where we shine a light on the people who make a real difference in our community. Today, we celebrate Cheryl Wurtz, a long-time supporter who has become a vital Pantry Angel for Soup Angels. Some people don’t just show up—they lift entire missions. Cheryl is one of those people.

The Reality of Soup Angels’ Growing Demand

Across Dallas, the need for support keeps rising. More homeless neighbors, more families struggling to put food on the table, and more individuals with specific dietary needs are turning to Soup Angels for help. Meeting this demand means juggling many tasks: cooking nourishing soups, delivering them on time, shopping for ingredients, cleaning up, responding to requests, and even managing social media to spread the word.

At times, I faced moments of doubt, wondering how I could keep up with the growing workload. The challenge was not just about making meals but ensuring every person’s unique needs were met with care and respect.

How Cheryl Changed Everything

Cheryl’s journey with Soup Angels began quietly, attending fundraising dinners and showing steady support. But her real impact started when she opened eyes to the generosity of food pantries across the Dallas metroplex. She connected the dots between Soup Angels and these valuable community resources.

Using her relationships and knowledge, Cheryl helped secure essential ingredients and supplies. This support lifted a huge burden from me, who no longer had to search for everything on their own. The relief was emotional as well as practical, allowing Soup Angels to focus more on serving their neighbors.

The Impact: Doubling Outreach and Reaching 600 Meals

Thanks to Cheryl’s efforts and the partnerships she helped build, Soup Angels reached a major milestone: serving over 600 people 876 meals for the first time. This growth was not just a number but a sign of hope for hundreds of people who rely on these meals.

The pantry partnerships Cheryl fostered directly fueled this expansion. When someone steps in to share the load, the whole mission grows stronger. With Cheryl’s help, Soup Angels didn’t just keep going—they grew.

What It Means to Have a Pantry Angel

A Pantry Angel is more than a volunteer; it’s someone who embodies generosity, consistency, and a deep sense of community. Cheryl represents these qualities in every action she takes. She is a pillar of the Soup Angels village, showing that this work is never done alone.

Her role means connecting resources, supporting the team, and ensuring that every meal reaches those who need it most. It’s a role built on trust, kindness, and a commitment to making a difference.

A Message of Gratitude from Chef Gary

Chef Gary reflects on Cheryl’s support with heartfelt appreciation. Her help has lifted both emotional and physical burdens, making the tough days easier and the good days even better. Her kindness fuels the commitment to stay in this work for the long haul, reminding everyone that no one carries the mission alone.

Celebrating Cheryl and Inviting Others to Join the Village

Today, we celebrate Cheryl publicly for all she has done and continues to do. Soup Angels grows because of people like her—people who step up, share their time and resources, and believe in the power of community.

If Cheryl’s story inspires you, consider joining the village. Every hand helps, and together, we can reach even more neighbors in need.
